As we are striving forward towards the end of the second decade of the 21st century, a lot of changes and innovations will certainly take place in different fields, especially in English language teaching and learning. Technological advancement does play a major role in teaching and learning languages. Teaching professionals from all levels have used various strategies or methods (project-based, flipped classroom, and the like) targeting at arousing learners’ interest, increasing their motivation, and enhancing their language proficiency. They, however, often complain that despite the invention of new materials as well as devices and the employment of strategies, actual classroom teaching and learning have not really been changed and advanced. How will we face these problems?

SPEAKERS

Andy Gao Xuesong

Associate Professor
at University of New South Wales

He has been involved in language teacher education in Hong Kong, mainland China, and Taiwan. His research interests include language learner autonomy, language education policy, and language teacher education.

Dilin Liu

Professor
at University of Alabama

His research focuses on the description and teaching of English grammar and vocabulary using cognitive- and corpus-linguistic approaches. He has published extensively with over 80 publications, including six books and numerous journal articles and book chapters.

Jason Loh

Senior Lecturer
at Nanyang Technological University

He has taught across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels and currently trains preservice teachers in the teaching of English language. His research interests focus on teacher education and language curriculum, particularly in curriculum implementation and the use of curriculum materials.

Liu Jun

Rector
at City University of Macau

He previously served as Associate Provost for International Initiatives and Professor of Applied Linguistics at Georgia State University after his tenure at University of Arizona as Assistant Vice President, Professor and Chair of English Department.

Paul Kei Matsuda

Professor
at Arizona State University

He has published widely on issues related to language and writing, and given lectures and workshops all around the world. He is Founding Chair of the Symposium on Second Language Writing and Editor of the Parlor Press Series on Second Language Writing.

Ryuko Kubota

Professor
at University of British Columbia

She teaches applied linguistics and teacher education. Her research draws on critical approaches to language education, focusing on race, gender, culture, and language ideologies.

Stephen Krashen

PhD.
University of Southern California

He has among papers (peer-reviewed and not) and books, more than 486 publications, contributing to the fields of second-language acquisition, bilingual education, and reading.

Yukio Tono

Professor
at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies

His research interest includes corpus applications in foreign language teaching and learning, corpus-based SLA research, and corpus approaches to CEFR-related research and resource development.

Norbert Schmitt

Professor
at University of Nottingham, UK

Professor Norbert Schmitt (currently Emeritus Professor of Applied Linguistics, School of English, University of Nottingham, UK) began his career in 1988 as an EFL teacher in Japan and quickly became interested in how language learners acquire their second languages.

Diane Pecorari

Professor
at City University of Hong Kong

Professor Diane Pecorari, currently Head of Department of English, City University of Hong Kong, works within the area of English Applied Linguistics. Her research has investigated aspects of English for academic purposes and second-language writing, (including source use and plagiarism), and the widespread and growing phenomenon of English medium instruction.

James P. Lantolf

Professor
at the Pennsylvania State Univeristy

Professor James P. Lantolf earned his Ph.D. in Linguistics The Pennsylvania State University, PA, USA in 1974. He is currently George and Jane Greer Professor Emeritus of Language Acquisition and Applied Linguistics, Director of the Center for Language Acquisition, and Co-director of Center for Advanced Language Proficiency Education and Research at this University.

※ We won’t provide conference bag to the participants this year because of environmental protection.

Quantity of the conference materials is limited. Priority will be given to the pre-registered members. ETA will prepare 50 sets of conference materials for the on-site registration participants. It will be based on a first-come-first-served basis. ETA won’t be able to send the conference materials or refund the membership fee for those pre-registered members who fail to attend the conference for any reasons.
